Breaking News: detailed analysis of Tokyo soil

Today we are sharing work by some quite thorough people who took readings and soil samples from a Tokyo [Sagamihara] park (250 km from Fukushima) that the authorities had reported as safe. The document at the bottom of this post shows the “test results” provided by the authorities and also shows photos and graphics of the sampling paradigm used by these private citizens who are concerned for the kids playing in this park.

The site and soil samples were surveyed by dosimeter – results shown in the document below – and then sent to someone in Germany who then used more rigorous lab equipment to probe the soil samples for contamination, type, and level of contamination.

The video below is rather long but is shows how dosimeters read on the lower end and then how the lab equipment give much more alarming and higher readings.

The data shows substantial contamination with cesium-134 and cesium-137.

Cs-134 = 10,000 Bq/kg

Cs-137 = 14,000 Bq/kg

As mentioned above, the following document provides detail sampling information, please check it out, please share it.(It’s a draft, might be corrected later. It shows Am,but it seems to be an error./ 9/18/2011)

Tokyo Hotspot soil analysis

  1. Citizens of Tokyo must bond together and believe the evidence of their own analysis. The government will never tell the truth. It seems likely that the grat city of Tokyo will have to be evacuated at some point. The radiation is getting worse, not better. There is no turning back from this horror which the nuclear industry has unleashed. As always, citizens must take care of themselves. The government and law enforcement are not your friends. Listen to your heart, Tokyo!

  2. Hello, here is a translation of a text published on a French website. I don’t want to use Facebook so I send it to you directly. It is a pleasure and an honour to contribute to your work. Thank you and best regards.

Time has come for scientific fraud

This week-end a fake scientific seminar, this autumn a rigged public health inquiry…
After industry’s lies, after the government’s panic, now is the time for scientific fraud with Prof. Yamashita Shinichi as the all-knowing scientist, supposed to have the truth about the sanitary damages after the disaster: a scientific fraud in two parts.

    1. This week-end, a fake scientific seminar
On Sunday 11 and Monday 12 September, Prof. Yamashita will lead the first national seminar about the nuclear disaster at Fukushima Medicine University, the International Fukushima Experts Meeting “Radioactivity and health risks” [1]. 30 Japanese and foreign experts from UNSCEAR, International Commission on Radiological Protection [2], International Agency for Atomic Energy and World Health Organization. According to the organization committee, the seminar aims at:
“Giving advise so as to suppress Fukushima inhabitants’ anxiety towards radiation. […] An answer to the mothers’ fear will have to be given.”
So 25 years after Tchernobyl, here comes back the theory of fear for radioactivity considered as a psychiatric problem : “radiophoby” would be the real cause of health problems.
The main organizer of the seminar is Prof. Yamashita from Nagasaki University, “advisor for health risk linked to radioactivity” for Fukushima Prefecture. He says his family survived the bombing of Nagasaki and he is actively engaged in promoting radioactivity as something harmless. He is often quoted in the media and is considered by many as a reliable scientist. He eventually says “The more you smile, the less you will be harmed by radioactivity. If you don’t smile, the radiations will harm you. This was proved by experimentations on animals”.

In the seminar’s program [3], dated August 1st, the organizers’ aim is clear:
“The situation in Fukushima was worsened by what we can only call an information disaster: the news provided vary according to sources, some of them being incompetent. It is very important for us to work on providing only correct and scientific information about radioactivity’s effects on health.” […]

But what kind of scientific information can we expect from a seminar with a vice-president like Abel Julio Gonzalez, a member of IAAE, vice-president of ICRP, and an advisor for the Argentinian Nuclear Regulation Authority? During WHO conference in Kiev on 4 June 2001, Mr. Gonzalez said:
“Tchernobyl caused 31 deaths, 2000 avoidable thyroid cancers for children. Up to today there is no internationally valid evidence for the impact of radioactivity on public health in Tchernobyl.”

Two important figures of the Japanese scientific circle were not selected among the experts of the seminar: Koide Hiroaki and Kodama Tatsuhiko. Prof. Koide specializes in measuring radiations and in nuclear safety at the Research Reactor Institute in Kyoto University. Prof. Kodama is a teacher at the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology; he is the director of the Radioisotope Center in Tokyo University.
Why weren’t they invited? Maybe because Prof. Koide recently said “there is no health safety level with radiation exposure, whatever our age is” [4]. And maybe because Prof. Kodama, in an audience in Parliament on 27 July, said “the total amount of radioactivity emitted since March 11 is equivalent to 29.6 Hiroshima bombs in terms of heat quantity, and about 20 times Hiroshima in terms of uranium volume” [5].

There is also the fact this seminar is financed by the Nippon Foundation. The Nippon Foundation volunteers could be seen in Tohoku as soon as March 12. The Foundation was created in 1962 by Sasakawa Ryoichi, a man with a controversial reputation [6]: he was accused of war crimes during World War II (but he was never sentenced guilty), and in Times magazine in 1974 he defined himself as “the world’s richest fascist”. […]
Shouldn’t we worry about the links between this Foundation and the first seminar about Fukushima disaster’s impact on health?

And what do we have to think about the fact the Nippon Foundation totally leaves out the general public in this seminar? There will be only an access on internet. So the scientists will keep together and the general public will look at their screens: the show can go on without being disturbed.

    2. This autumn, a rigged public health inquiry
In June the Fukushima Prefecture said there would be a public health inquiry for people exposed to heavy radiations. This autumn, every inhabitant in the Prefecture will be sent a questionnaire in order to know their activities and food two weeks after March 11.
Then the estimated radiation level will be compared with the detected rates. Only people with a high rate will be examined by anthropogammametry, thyroid, urines and blood examination. The information will be kept for 30 years in a data base created by the Fukushima Medicine University.
All very nice but there are two problems.

The organizers of this inquiry say “it was intended to cool down anxiety and to guaranty security and relief thanks to a long-term sanitary control of the Fukushima Prefecture inhabitants.”
Okubo Toshiteru, president of the Radiation Effects Research Foundation (a Japanese-American cooperative research group on the impact of A-bombs, created in 1947), already has an idea about the inquiry’s result (Asahi Shinbun, 18 June 2011):
“The Fukushima incidents’ impact on public health can be presumed to be very minor. […] The population’s exposure to a few dozens of millisieverts per year does not reach a level to which health effects were seen in previous studies. […] With such a radiation level, it is most probable the effects due to tobacco or to the evacuation stress are more important than those due to radiation.”
An inquiry is planned but they already foretell the results, and the organizers even talk about “security and relief” !

There are serious doubts about the scientific credibility of this inquiry: the Fukushima Medicine University and Prof. Yamashita (also linked to this project) say that “there is absolutely no impact on health as long as the contamination is under 100 microsieverts per hour”, which is equivalent to 876 millisieverts per year, or 876 times the maximum authorized annual dose according to ICRP, or 44 times the authorized dose for nuclear workers in the USA and Germany.

This declaration was made in March, when the radiation level was at its highest in Fukushima Prefecture. But two months later it was corrected. As a good scientist, Prof. Yamashita then said the risk level was above 100 millisieverts per year.

  3. Read even the introduction by Dr. Chris Busby and you get a real sense of how absurd this ‘seminar’ is. The same nuclear industry that suppressed Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the Chernobyl accident and many others, is trying to do the same about Fukushima. We must all keep posting the truth, rally, protest and elect people who will seek only the truth and serve the real needs of the people in our countries, no corporations profit. Evacuation of a larger area in Japan is necessary to protect the public, esp the children. ECRR = European Committee on Radiation Risk

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
