[6,000 Bq/Kg of Pu-238/Am-241] Tepco “Same stuff as packing material used in Fukushima plant”

3 of 4 pieces of the substance can be the packing material that is frequently used in Fukushima plant, according to Tepco.

The spokesman commented in the press conference of 2/12/2014.

 

It’s stated that the radiation level is similar to reactor3 debris though Co-60 density is significantly higher than reactor3 debris. However, 3 of 4 the pieces are polyethylene and polyolefin polymer, which are the same as the packing material, not the building material.

The other piece of the substance is wood, which they haven’t identified the origin either.

Selon Tepco, la substance de 3 des 4 morceaux pourrait correspondre à celle d’emballages fréquemment utilisés dans la centrale nucléaire de Fukushima.
Le porte-parole l’a déclaré au cours de la conférence de presse du 12 février 2014.

Ils affirment que les niveaux radioactifs sont similaires à ceux des débris du réacteur 3 bien que la radioactivité en cobalt 60 (Co) soit significativement plus haute que dans ces débris. Néanmoins, 3 des 4 morceaux sont en polyéthylènes et polyalcènes, la matière d’emballages, ce ne sont pas des morceaux de bâtiment.
Le dernier morceau est en bois, ils n’en ont pas encore établi la provenance.

Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
