All β nuclides level in groundwater is higher near the sea, “3,000,000 Bq/m3 from a boring water of 6m from the sea”

On 6/29/2013, Tepco reported they measured 3,000,000 Bq/m3 of all β nuclide (including Strontium-90) from the groundwater taken in a new observation hole on the day.

From another observation hole located in 19m away in the mountain side (opposite from the sea), they measured 1,400,000 Bq/m3 of all β nuclide one day before.

It means all β nuclide density goes higher as it goes closer to the sea.

The new observation hole, where they detected 3,000,000 Bq/m3 of all β nuclides is only 6 m from the sea.

The old observation hole in 19m away in the mountain side (opposite from the sea) is where they measured 500,000,000 Bq/m3 of Tritium and 1,000,000 Bq/m3 of Sr-90. It’s likely that they are to measure even higher level of Tritium and Sr-90 from the new observation hole but the readings are not published yet.

In another observation hole located in the sea side of reactor2 and 3, Tritium level also increased from 560,000 Bq/m3 to 850,000 Bq/m3 from 6/21 to 6/26/2013.

As a trend, Tritium level is increasing in groundwater and seawater. Also, the readings of groundwater are higher near the sea.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
