[Suspicion] Tepco stated they won’t analyze leaking water for α nuclide “by mistake”

About the major leakage of highly contaminated water, Fukushima Diary reported Tepco hasn’t decided when to announce Plutonium concentration in the leaking water.

(cf, [Leakage] Plutonium concentration in the leaking reservoirs not announced [URL])

In the press conference of 4/15/2013, Tepco commented they were not going to analyze the leaking water for Plutonium-238/239/240 or tritium. Immediately after the statement, the spokes man admitted he made a mistake.

In the press conference of 4/10/2013, Tepco commented they need to check when to announce the Plutonium concentration on the leaking water. I asked the same question today. It would be too late if they announce it in one year from now. Even preliminary results are necessary. However today they answered they were not going to analyze for total α or tritium.

but that’s written on the press release of 4/10 to say they were going to do.

I read up the press release of 4/10, and asked if they were not really going to analyze the water for total α, tritium and strontium just to make sure. Then they said, “Well, that press release is correct.”.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
