14 μSv/h from the yellow substance on the roof in Kashiwa Chiba

A Japanese person measured highly contaminated substance on the roof of her house. The house is located in Kashiwa city Chiba, where is known to be a hotspot. (cf. 192.5 Bq/Kg of cesium from citron in Kashiwa city Chiba)

Around the end of July, I had the professional cleaners wash the roof of our house.
The roof was covered with something like this yellow moss. It was 0.7 μSv/h on its surface.

yellow substance
I took 20g of it by a kitchen knife. Radiation meter indicated it was red zone, 1.2 μSv/h.

yellow substance 3
I haven’t measured 1.2μSv/h from merely 20g of sample even around here known to be hotspot.
It was totally washed off after cleaning, radiation level was decreased a little bit, 0.4 μSv/h on the surface, but the yellow substance was still with mud in the rain gutter.
I took 3.6 kg of it with the perfect protective clothing (tyvek, gas mask, goggles, plastic gloves).
I packed the clothing soon after taking off the sample, had shower to clean eyes, ears, nostrils carefully.
This is very dangerous, please don’t do it. I can’t take a responsibility if something happened to you.

The radiation level was 14 μSv/h. I haven’t measured higher than 10 μSv/h before. It makes sense why the radiation level is high on the second floor.

yellow substance 4
We were living with such a thing on our roof..
When I stepped on the roof, I saw the roofs of other houses, most of them were covered with the same yellow substance. Probably the radiation level is high as well.
<End>

As reference, in March. 2011, yellow power remained on the street or rain gutters after rain and they measured quite high level of radiation as well. (cf. 2.16 μSv/h from yellow powder)
It is not known what the yellow powder was.
The connection between the yellow powder and this yellow substance is not known either.

(cf. 2.16 μSv/h from yellow powder : http://fukushima-diary.com/2012/04/2-16-%CE%BCsvh-from-yellow-powder/)

  2. I’m wondering if someone at the Diet or Kantei could identify it for her?

Seriously people, if the government won’t come and clean this mess up, what can we do? If they just scream “baseless rumor” every time something like this is found, is it not reasonable to bring samples to them?, put it under their noses?, and let them see and feel that it is real?

Will they arrest you for doing this? Why? If it’s not dangerous enough for them to remove it from your house, why would it be illegal to bring samples to them for their inspection?

    I don’t get it.

  3. I have many relatives living right in this area with adorable grandchildren who I used to play with when I visited. I have not spoken to these relatives much after we left Japan as it is awkward now. My aunt, for example, thought we were being silly for having left and told us to come back and that it was safe. I simply do not know what to say or think seeing these horrific values from readings knowing my friends and family are living there (even people I do not know, anyone!). What maddness is this? All to boil fucking water to turn a turbine? Is this worth it? Fuck, fuck, fuck!

Arrest these monsters responsible for the disaster and the lies. Arrest them ALL and place them and their families at Fukushima Daiichi and make them clean up. Give their homes and riches to those suffering in Fukushima now. Why should they get to escape this while innocent people are suffering? Insanity.

  4. It was brought to my attention in doing research that after Hiroshima, there was a seasonal pollen that was also very high in radioactive readings. There are many of us tracking down these incidences throughout the centuries and putting the puzzle together. Also after Chernobyl the children were out playing in the yellow rain puddles. Sound familiar?

  5. “Yellow” substance makes me think of yellow cakes of Uranium. This can be contaminated pollen but the color can be caused by Uranium?? I believe that contamination by Uranium and Pultonium in this area has been quite severe…

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
