Tepco to finally investigate why reactor1 temperature goes up when they stop nitrogen gas injection

Tepco is finally going to investigate the connection between the nitrogen gas injection and the PCV temperature of reactor1.

Since April of 2012, Fukushima Diary has been reporting that the temperature increases when they stop the nitrogen gas injection.

Tepco reported they don’t know why nitrogen injection decreases the temperature of reactor1 [URL])

Currently Tepco is injecting nitrogen gas into PCV and RPV of reactor1 to purge hydrogen gas to control the risk of further hydrogen gas explosion. However, PCV temperature was observed to rise up when they stop the injection.

Fukushima Diary had a journalist ask Tepco about the connection in their press conference of 2012, but they stated probably it’s only because the gas outlet is near the thermometer.

This is their first attempt to try to investigate it. The reason is to check the soundness of the injection line.

They plan to decrease the nitrogen gas volume to inject into PCV and increase it to RPV from 6/18/2013 and observe the trend of the ambient temperature of D/W.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
