Tepco “Shortage of Fukushima workers caused the leakage”

Having been reprimanded by Nuclear Regulatory Agency, Tepco submitted the report about their management improvement plan.

In this report, Tepco repeatedly mentioned “the shortage of Fukushima workers” as the cause of the continuous leakage of contaminated water.

They stated, they used to let the water go out of the tank area dams even in rain. However, since the leakage of 300m3, they have been closing the dams as it should be. It added the new work to pump up the rainwater retained in the dams, but they couldn’t manage the additional supply of the workers.

Gradually they are starting to mention the shortage of Fukushima workers increasingly.

Suite aux remontrances de la Nuclear Regulatory Agency, Tepco a remis un rapport sur leur plan d’amélioration de gestion . (cf. Le gouvernement envisage de revoir le plan de démantèlement suite aux problèmes d’eaux extrêmement radioactives)

Dans ce rapport, Tepco répète continuellement que “la pénurie en travailleurs pour Fukushima” est la cause des sempiternelles fuites d’eau extrêmement radioactives.
Ils affirment même qu’ils ont du laisser les eaux sortir des zones de citernes endiguées pendant les pluies. Cependant, depuis la fuite des 300 m³, ils ont fermé ces endiguements comme ce devrait être fait. Il ajoute le nouveau travail de pomper les eaux de pluie retenues dans les endiguements mais ils n’ont pas pu gérer la demande complémentaire en personnel.

Ils commencent progressivement à parler de plus en plus du manque de main d’œuvre pour Fukushima.

I do not intend to show disrespect for ‘The Fukushima 50’ or actual kamikaze pilots that were called upon to defend their ancestral home as well as women and children close at hand. However, TEPCO has done little to earn the respect of workers, Fukushima residents, Japan or the world at large.

Worker wants new government to secure safety at Fukushima plant

THE ASAHI SHIMBUN December 09, 2012

A TEPCO employee in his 20s who grew up in Fukushima Prefecture has become an opponent of nuclear power after the accident at the Fukushima No. 1 plant.

“I was told to work at the plant like a kamikaze pilot,” said the man, who is evacuating from Fukushima Prefecture due to high levels of radiation he received. “I have no idea about how much radiation I was exposed to.”

He said a large number of his colleagues left the company during the past year.

The actual kamikaze pilots were deadly, feared and heroic. The national policy was: cruel, inhumane, barbaric and terroristic; but then, so also was nuking Hiroshima and Nagasaki. As they say, “war is hell”.

In the year 1281, Japan was under attack by a Mongol invasion — led by the powerful Kublai Khan. However, just as it appeared that the invading Mongols were about to overwhelm the Japanese, a catastrophic typhoon swept through the land, eliminating the entire Mongol army. From that point on, the typhoon that saved Japan became known as the Kamikaze or Divine Wind.

A typical pilot was a science student in his twenties.

This is a serious problem.
It’s been 2.5 years since the disaster and already they’re having problems finding enough workers.
It’s understandable why – it’s too dangerous, and TEPCO doesn’t prioritize the workers’ safety.
But is there any radiation suit in the world that can block out all the radiation?

It will take decades (at least) to clean up Fukushima.
If they can’t even find enough workers, then how will we pull this off?
