Tepco officially announced to discharge contaminated water into Pacific ocean

 

Fukushima Diary has been warning that Tepco would discharge the increasing contaminated water to the sea. (cf, Tepco plans to discharge contaminated water into the environment, “Getting permission of related departments” [Link 1])
On 1/24/2013, they officially announced they are going to discharge contaminated water into Pacific ocean at the meeting of Nuclear Regulation Authority.
The specific date is not announced yet.

Le 24 janvier 2013, ils annoncent officiellement à la réunion de la Nuclear Regulation Authority qu’ils vont  décharger les eaux  contaminées dans l’océan Pacifique.
La date exacte n’est pas communiquée.

Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
