[Photo] Reactor 1 could have been severely collapsed if M4.8 occurred 6 hours earlier on 11/19

Tepco’s decommissioning attempt could have collapsed the crippled Reactor 1 on 11/19/2015.

This is not largely recognized by the mass media.

According to Tepco, they started removing the minor debris from Reactor 1 building by using a special type of a vacuum (See photos attached below).

The vacuum is hung by a crane. It removed the small pieces of concrete from 8:16 to 12:26 of 11/19/2015. As shown in their photos, the vacuuming facility was nearly touching the steel frames of Reactor 1.

On the same day, a major earthquake occurred offshore Fukushima at 18:33 (JST). The magnitude was 4.8. Seismic intensity 4 was observed in Namiemachi.

Tepco reported they found no abnormality in the plant status 2 hours after the quake.

The earthquake-proof of the vacuum and soundness of Reactor 1 are not announced. Tepco did not report what would have happened to Reactor 1 if the quake hit Fukushima only 6 hours earlier.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
