[Photo] 4.3 μSv/h on the street of Matsudo city Chiba

On a shared radiation map, it is reported that 4.282 μSv/h was detected in Matsudo city Chiba.

There are UFJ Bank Limited and The Daiei, Inc. nearby.

Other person posted on Twitter that he also measured 2.9 μSv/h on the ground. The rain gutter beside the street is accumulating sediment and it is highly contaminated.

He reports the atmospheric dose is over 2 μSv/h all along this street.

The radiation level still hasn’t been decreased in Kanto area.

[Photo] 4,3 μSv/h dans une rue de Matsudo à Chiba

Sur une carte de radioactivité partagée on peut lire qu’il a été relevé 4,282 μSv/h dans la commune de Matsudo de Chiba.
On trouve UFJ Bank Limited et The Daiei, Inc. à proximité.

  1. This looks like the black dust that has been found over much of central/east Honshu, and that analysis suggests has come directly from the core of at least one of the reactors. Is it still being emitted? As it normally seems to concentrate in gutters, why hasn’t it all been washed into the rivers and sea by now?

  2. This is probably just normal black soil for a volcanic island, with a whiff of Beta such as Cs-137, Cs-134 & Sr-90. If it were Gamma, the reading would normally be taken at about 1 Meter High above the ground. Beta won’t reach that high, without a significant loss in reading.

    1. A Google image search (see links below) suggests that much of the soil in the region is brown or grey, although some of it is fairly black. If naturally occurring black soil were common in urban areas, the radioactive ‘black dust’ would not have been so noticeable. However the person who posted the photos above apparently did not use the phrase ‘black dust’ so it may just be regular (albeit contaminated) soil.

  3. FDU-3 Black Dust

The Fukushima Daiichi Unit-3 supersonic detonation was at extreme temperature, and emitted a significant amount of neutron radiation. Thus, some transmutation of previously inert substances, such as structural steel occurred.

The ‘FDU-3 Black Dust’ is nuclear fuel which has been vaporized and re-solidified. ‘FDU-3 Black Dust’ is extremely ‘HOT’, and presumably emits alpha, beta, gamma & the occasional neutron.

    Very Nasty Stuff

    1. Is the “black substance” (former core fuel) possibly related in any way to 131I detections from sanitary sludge from Tokyo, & Chiba Prefecture?

      1. The detection of I-131 (assuming the reports are accurate) indicates ongoing criticalities, because I-131 has a half-life of only 8 days. If the substance shown here is indeed ‘black dust’ it suggests that nuclear fuel is still getting vaporised or at least aerosolised…in substantial quantities.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
