[Column] The most hated virtue

I was tired of studying and lying on my bed.
I was 15 years old.

Someone knocked on the door. It was my grandma.
She had pancreatic cancer 9 months ago, and died 3 months later.

She got skinny as Steve Jobs in his last few years.
but my grandma showed me her tummy and legs.
They were swollen a little bit.

She was, “I’m starting to be fat, this is the sign of getting better.”

I tried to smile and said, “That’s great to hear, go for it, you’ll be 100% fine soon.”
I actually felt like that was a sign of something terrible though I had no medical knowledge.

Surprisingly even the doctor was saying it was a good sign for her to be recovered
until those parts started looking like balloons so she couldn’t even walk to knock on the door.

It was actually because cancer cell got stuck in her lymph node.

Why did I try to smile and say something to please her.
What if I had been honest ?
I’ve been thinking about this for nearly 15 years.

An honest person is not loved much as a charming person.
This is why it’s the trait, which is necessary for a leader.

Being honest is sharing the pain with the person.
Now I don’t see anyone honest enough to be a leader in my country.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
