Another constant leakage to the Pacific has been concealed by Tepco for nearly one year

On 3/4/2015, Tepco admitted another drain has been letting highly contaminated water flow to the Pacific since when 311 took place. The drain outlet is situated outside of the plant port.

Drained contaminated water has been directly discharged to the sea. Tepco became aware of this fact last April, but kept concealing for nearly one year.

It is the drain located in the North part of Fukushima plant. It runs beside Reactor 5 and 6. The outlet is just outside of the North end of the port.

As long as Tepco announces, they have been taking the data of contamination level since 4/16/2014 weekly. Their data showed both of Cs-134/137 density and All β nuclide density (including Strontium-90) jumped up every time it rained. 200,000 Bq/m3 of All β nuclide density has been measured. Strontium-90 has almost never been tested for some reason, but 3,300 Bq/m3 has been measured.

Tepco hasn’t announced why they didn’t publish the analysis data for almost one year.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
