4 prefectures ended up building final disposal sites of highly radioactive waste within their lands

Radiation continues to leak from the remnants of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
As the small country of Japan becomes full of radioactive waste, prefectural governments have to find locations to permanently dispose of it.

A Chiba-based incineration facility ended up incinerating radioactive waste in order to reduce its volume.

Chiba and 3 other prefectures have decided to build permanent disposal sites.

Because of the Fukushima nuclear crisis, local governments are suffering from rapidly accumulating radioactive incineration ash and sewage sludge. When more than 8,000 Bq/kg of radiation is measured in waste, the Japanese government has to process it. As of 8/3/2012, the amount of processed radioactive waste has reached 42,575 tonnes in 9 prefectures.

The prefectural governments of Miyagi, Tochigi, Ibaraki, and Chiba are going to build permanent disposal sites on government-owned land in their respective prefectures to cope with the rapidly accumulating processed radioactive waste.
They have to choose candidate locations by the end of September. The Miyagi, Tochigi, and Ibaraki prefectural governments have already started holding briefings with staff from local city and town governments.

It’s been only one and a half years since 3/11; it’s unimaginable how many permanent disposal sites will be needed before the Fukushima nuclear crisis is finally resolved.

A cause de Fukushima, les autorités locales subissent une augmentation rapide de déchets, cendres d’incinération et boues d’égouts radioactifs. Quand ils relèvent plus de 8 000 Bq/kg sur les déchets, le gouvernement japonais doit les traiter. Au 3 août 2012, on en a jusqu’à 42 575 tonnes réparties sur 9 préfectures.
Les autorités de Miyagi, Tochigi, Ibaraki et Chiba vont créer des sites de dépôts finaux sur des terres gouvernementales dans leurs propres préfectures, à cause de l’augmentation rapide des volumes.
Ils doivent avoir choisi les emplacements avant fin-septembre. Les préfectures de Miyagi, Tochigi et Ibaraki ont déjà commencé à tenir des réunions avec les équipes municipales des villes et des villages.

Nous sommes à seulement un an et demi du 11 mars. On ne peut imaginer combien de sites définitifs vont être nécessaires jusqu’à ce que Fukushima soit démantelée.

Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
