On 6/16/2014, the Maritime Safety Agency reported that a new crater appeared on the new volcanic island.

It was observed on 6/13/2014, spreading magma and white and blue white volcanic fumes on the east part of the island (The picture above).

The most active crater located in the north part of the island was seen erupting every 10 seconds.

Prof. Nogami from Tokyo Inst. of Technology commented new magma is stably supplied, the volcanic activity is still extremely active.

Prof. Nogami from Tokyo Inst. of Technology stated the volcanic activity is increasing in the new island.

He joined the aerial survey of the Maritime Safety Agency on 7/23/2014. He commented the the volcanic fumes reach higher altitude than before. The eruption scale is increasing and it’s becoming more active.

Assistant Prof. Maeno from Earthquake Research Institute of the university of Tokyo commented there is a possibility that a part of the island collapses. On the assumption that approx. 1/4 of the island collapses, it may cause 1m height of Tsunami to Chichi-jima island, which is located about 130 km from the new volcanic island.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
