Why doesn’t Tepco analyze fishery products for Strontium-90 ? → Tepco “Because it’s how it’s supposed to be”

The reason why Tepco doesn’t analyze fishery products for Strontium-90 is only because it’s the rule. Tepco stated in the press conference of 2/19/2014.

Having highly contaminated water leaking to the sea, the biological concentration of marine products is one of the most important issues.

However, they don’t analyze the samples for Strontium-90, which is accumulated in bone to cause human consumers leukemia. Like ordinary food test of the government, they only analyze them for Cesium-134/137.

Among tens of the test results, they release Strontium-90 data only about a couple of the samples, once in a few months.

Tepco doesn’t have the plan to analyze the samples for Strontium-90 and other nuclides more frequently, and the reason to refuse the proposal wasn’t announced either.

  1. They don’t test it because strontium levels are too high in fish products and Tepco does not want the fishing industry to stop fishing (Tepco would have to pay compensation). The government should request the tests. But the government prefers investors to be happy at the expense of some people getting leukaemia. Tepco does what the government request, so in a sense, it is not doing anything wrong. The government can choose to request protection of the citizens, but it does not. The government and ministries are evil.

      The ocean is broken

IT was the silence that made this voyage different from all of those before it. Not the absence of sound, exactly. The wind still whipped the sails and whistled in the rigging. The waves still sloshed against the fibreglass hull. And there were plenty of other noises: muffled thuds and bumps and scrapes as the boat knocked against pieces of debris. What was missing was the cries of the seabirds which, on all previous similar voyages, had surrounded the boat. The birds were missing because the fish were missing.

Exactly 10 years before, when Newcastle yachtsman Ivan Macfadyen had sailed exactly the same course from Melbourne to Osaka, all he’d had to do to catch a fish from the ocean between Brisbane and Japan was throw out a baited line.

The next leg of the long voyage was from Osaka to San Francisco and for most of that trip the desolation was tinged with nauseous horror and a degree of fear. “After we left Japan, it felt as if the ocean itself was dead,” Macfadyen said. “We hardly saw any living things. We saw one whale, sort of rolling helplessly on the surface with what looked like a big tumour on its head. It was pretty sickening. “I’ve done a lot of miles on the ocean in my life and I’m used to seeing turtles, dolphins, sharks and big flurries of feeding birds. But this time, for 3000 nautical miles there was nothing alive to be seen.”

Study: Dead sea creatures cover 98 percent of ocean floor off California coast; up from 1 percent before Fukushima

Thursday, January 02, 2014 by: Ethan A. Huff, staff writer

(NaturalNews) The Pacific Ocean appears to be dying, according to a new study recently published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Scientists from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) in California recently discovered that the number of dead sea creatures blanketing the floor of the Pacific is higher than it has ever been in the 24 years that monitoring has taken place, a phenomenon that the data suggests is a direct consequence of nuclear fallout from Fukushima.

It is almost as if the powers that be want us all to forget about Fukushima and the catastrophic damage it continues to cause to our planet. But they will not be able to cover up the truth forever, as human life is dependent upon healthy oceans, the life of which provides the oxygen that we all need to breathe and survive.

I felt pretty good Tuesday evening after getting off the phone with Robin Brown, head of the ocean sciences division of the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans, based in Sidney, B.C. He said Health Canada was doing some testing on marine life for radiation levels, measuring concentrations in fish. That’s what First Nation leaders are calling for, and I thought it was a positive development.

After hearing from Brown that Fukushima radiation was first detected in B.C. coastal waters in June 2013, the lack of testing — or official lack of testing — seemed profoundly negligent. A lot of my good feelings vanished. And the more I thought about Brown’s sanguine attitude, the less convinced I became. It’s all about data. But how good is the data? It took Japan’s power company about two months to admit that three reactors had melted down in March 2011 and more than two years to admit that radioactive water had been flowing into the Pacific on a daily basis.

The data often seems to be behind the times and severely understated. That’s why Canada’s government owes it to the citizens of this country to provide the most accurate data that’s out there, perform rigorous testing and be transparent about the results. Every Canadian should back B.C.’s First Nation leaders on this one.

              1. Apparently they have actually tested and published readings, of 1bq/m^3. Time to evacuate the west coast of the north american continent, eh Mr Bill Duff?

The Western Beaches will soon have increasing Salt Spray components of Strontium-90, Cesium-134 and Cesium-137; as the Fukushima Oceanic pollution arrives. This radioactive Salt Spray will decrease exponentially as one moves inland.

The vast increases in Oceanic Tritiated Water Vapor and Tritiated Rain will travel inland a bit more freely. The mountain ranges will block most of the tritium rain. So the increased X-Ray levels will have little effect on the hinterland. So the Midwest, Southwest and Eastern Seaboard children will have a better time of it.

The heavy rainfall areas of the West Coast like the states of Washington, Oregon and Northern California … well again, guys … we’re sorry, but you’re screwed. Do try to keep the kids inside out of the rain. And don’t drink surface water from lakes, rivers or streams. The well water should be fine. 6. WHOI Senior Scientist Ken Buesseler calls for Pacific Radiation Tests and Publication

http www washingtonsblog com/ (2013/12/fukushima-radiation-hits-west-coast) html

With the first plume of water carrying radionuclides from Fukushima due to hit the U.S. West Coast any day now, [the senior scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Ken Buesseler’s] latest project is to convince the federal government to monitor radiation levels in the sea water.

“We don’t have a U.S. agency responsible for radiation in the ocean,” Buesseler said. “It’s really bizarre.”

He spent this past week in Washington, D.C., meeting with representatives of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Department of Energy, asking them to come up with some sort of plan to keep tabs on levels of radionuclides in the ocean.

Indeed, Dr. Buesseler points out the circular reasoning which the government is using (at 10:00):

I completely agree that no radiation has been seen in the regards that we’re not really testing for it [laughter] in any organized way … We have very few data; it’s not really being organized. The government says we don’t really need to do that because we’re predicting very low levels. On the other hand, you could argue I’d very much like to see study on our side of the ocean just to confirm these values and build some confidence with the public that’s been concerned about this. They’re right to be concerned — as scientists we’re telling them they shouldn’t be, but it’d be nice to have a few more data points to fill that gap … I’ve been told that there’s very little testing going on.

    1. Mr Bill Duff cites Ken Buesseler, who makes a plea to have more data points as there is very little testing going on. This is counter to Mr Bill Duffs own claims that radiation contamination is “common knowledge, measured internationally, and thoroughly documented since Spring 2011”.
Mr Bill Duffs citations undermine his own claims.

      1. Testing and Publication

I do not AGREE with Ken’s conclusions and/or his rhetoric.

I DO agree with Ken’s call for testing and publication.

Ken appears to consistently ‘low ball’ the Pacific radioactive contamination and the implications. I conclude that Ken is consistently, ‘a day late and a dollar short’.

Ken appears to be about half an order of magnitude LOW and appears to be placating rather than informing the public. IMHO. But TESTING and DATA are necessary to separate opinions from FACTS.

        Sincerely,

        Bill Duff

Even low-level radioactivity is damaging, scientists conclude

    Summary:

Even the very lowest levels of radiation are harmful to life, scientists have concluded, reporting the results of a wide-ranging analysis of 46 peer-reviewed studies published over the past 40 years. Variation in low-level, natural background radiation was found to have small, but highly statistically significant, negative effects on DNA as well as several measures of health. Mousseau and co-author Anders Møller of the University of Paris-Sud combed the scientific literature, examining more than 5,000 papers involving natural background radiation that were narrowed to 46 for quantitative comparison. The selected studies all examined both a control group and a more highly irradiated population and quantified the size of the radiation levels for each. Each paper also reported test statistics that allowed direct comparison between the studies.

The organisms studied included plants and animals, but had a large preponderance of human subjects. Each study examined one or more possible effects of radiation, such as DNA damage measured in the lab, prevalence of a disease such as Down’s Syndrome, or the sex ratio produced in offspring. For each effect, a statistical algorithm was used to generate a single value, the effect size, which could be compared across all the studies. The scientists reported significant negative effects in a range of categories, including immunology, physiology, mutation and disease occurrence. The frequency of negative effects was beyond that of random chance.

  9. Strontium-90

http www epa gov/ (radiation/radionuclides/strontium) html

Health Effects of Strontium-90 – How can strontium-90 affect people’s health?

Strontium-90 is chemically similar to calcium, and tends to deposit in bone and blood-forming tissue (bone marrow). Thus, strontium-90 is referred to as a “bone seeker.” Internal exposure to Sr-90 is linked to bone cancer, cancer of the soft tissue near the bone, and leukemia.

Risk of cancer increases with increased exposure to Sr-90. The risk depends on the concentration of Sr-90 in the environment, and on the exposure conditions.

What does strontium-90 do once it gets into the body?

When people ingest Sr-90, about 70-80% of it passes through the body. Virtually all of the remaining 20-30% that is absorbed is deposited in the bone. About 1% is distributed among the blood volume, extracellular fluid, soft tissue, and surface of the bone, where it may stay and decay or be excreted.

In hopes of suffocating the issue, the Japanese government and media conglomerates have largely ignored the plausibility of radioactive contamination. I discussed the taboo topic with Shigeru Mita, a Tokyo physician who has taken matters into his own hands.

What do you think is the best plan for people living in Japan?

I can think only about the area around Tokyo. I worry about the children, their parents, and the children who will be born in the future. I want the patients to move to the safer place, but most people don’t want to move. I strongly recommend that anyone living in the area head to a safer place one or two months out of the year. I encourage everyone living in Tokyo to take blood tests as frequently as possible. In the meantime, there’s nothing I can do but support the patients on a private-sector level.

Massive counterclaims, in excess of $10 million, have just been filed against climate scientist Michael Mann after lawyers affirmed that the former golden boy of global warming alarmism had sensationally failed in his exasperating three-year bid to sue skeptic Canadian climatologist, Tim Ball. Door now wide open for criminal investigation into Climategate conspiracy.

Buoyed by Dr Ball’s successes, journalist and free-speech defender, Mark Steyn has promptly decided to likewise countersue Michael Mann for $10 million in response to a similar SLAPP suit filed by the litigious professor from Penn. State University against not just Steyn, but also the National Review, the Competitive Enterprise Institute and Rand Simberg. Ball’s countersuit against Mann seeks “exemplary and punitive damages”

Mann’s chief undoing in all such lawsuits is highlighted in a quote in Steyn’s latest counterclaim:

The shift to a cleaner energy economy won’t happen overnight, and it will require tough choices along the way. But the debate is settled. Climate change is a fact.”

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
