Related to this article.. Tepco “Major release of fission product observed on 3/20~21/2011″ / “Spiked the radiation level in Kanto region” [URL]

In the report, Tepco also admitted reactor3 had the black smoke on 3/21/2011 after the “hydrogen explosion” of 3/14/2011.

Last year, Fukushima Diary reported the possibility of the second meltdown of reactor3, which may have occurred from 3/21 to 3/22/2013.

(cf, [Reactor3] Possible second meltdown happened 3/21 ~ 3/22/2011 [URL])

This announcement of Tepco meets the report of Fukushima Diary made over a year ago.

Even though Tepco didn’t mention the cause of the black smoke, they admitted the “significant” spike of radiation level was observed in the entrance of Fukushima nuclear plant.

The pressure of D/W and the reactor didn’t change.

Officially reactor1, 3 and 4 had one explosion for each. However, there is the possibility that unreported explosions / meltdowns occurred repeatedly.

I reject the international mass media to read this site without taking a contact with me.I know some of the mass media corporations read Fukushima Diary to understand the trend so they know when to report about Fukushima as if they were independently following it for a long time.
In short, they make you individual readers pay for this site while they pay nothing, and when they publish the “authorized news”, you pay for the “secondhand news”, which is nothing new for us.
This site is free for the individual readers, but not for corporations. In the world, this site is nearly the only source about Fukushima. I came here alone without any supporting organizations, background or anything. I’m not pleased to be exploited by the corporations that didn’t even properly report about Fukushima when 311 took place.

I demand them to take a contact with me BEFORE reading this site whatever the purpose is.

  1. Bill Duff says:

    FDU-3 was a nuclear reactor.

The 03/14/2011 explosion of FDU-3, induced gamma radiation in previously inert, structural metals. Therefore, it is an ‘Open and Shut Case’ that nuclear fission occurred outside the FDU-3 containment.

The first fatal accident (1961) in a nuclear reactor, occurred in the USA Idaho SL-1 reactor (NRTS). Some of the brass metal on the personnel became radioactive. This induced radiation was ‘proof positive then’. And it is proof positive now.

    FDU-3 was an atomic explosion.

    Sincerely,

    Bill Duff

    • Niall says:

That accident was caused by the operator standing on top of the reactor and pulling on a stuck control rod, which suddenly released and came all the way out. Hee didn’t die of radiation. One operator sustained serious head wounds from the explosion and the other was impaled into the ceiling by the safety plugs as they shot upwards through his groin and exited at his shoulder.

      • Bill Duff says:

        Incompetent Liars

There were 3 fatalities at the SL-1 accident.

Their bodies were transported and buried in Lead-Lined Caskets.

The minerals in their bodies became radioactive due to neutron flux.

Team Nuke should hire a more competent liar than you.

        Sincerely,

        Bill Duff

        • Niall says:

They died of blunt trauma. Who are you calling liars, and what did they say that was a lie?
That 3 people died is stated on the wikipedia page, but I guess you are going to explain how its an illuminati coverup involving area 51 and time travelling space aliens, those lying bastards.

PROOF, according to the Atomic Energy Commission.

Two documentary films describe an earlier uncontrolled atomic explosion in a nuclear reactor. There are many documented accounts of this fatal nuclear reactor prompt criticality. Perhaps it is simpler for non-technical readers to watch these military briefing films. It is easy to ‘cut to the chase’ about why the GammaCam readings are ‘proof positive’ of an uncontained nuclear explosion, ie ‘a smoking gun’. To view a description and explanation of this proof, simply fast-forward the film, to the indicated Elapsed Time (ET) [min:s]

      • Bill Duff says:

U.S. Atomic Energy Commission Idaho Operations Office

The Stationary Low-Power Reactor Number One (SL-1), was a United States Army experimental nuclear power reactor. On January 3, 1961 the reactor was restarted after a shutdown of eleven days. Maintenance procedures commenced, which required the main central control rod to be withdrawn a few inches; at 9:01 p.m. this rod was withdrawn almost to the top of the core, causing SL-1 to go prompt critical. In four milliseconds, the heat generated by the resulting enormous power surge caused water surrounding the core to begin to explosively vaporize. The water vapor caused a pressure wave to strike the top of the reactor vessel. This propelled the control rod and the entire reactor vessel upwards, which killed the operator who had been standing on top of the vessel, leaving him pinned to the ceiling. The other two military personnel, a supervisor and a trainee, were also killed. The victims were Army Specialists John A. Byrnes and Richard L. McKinley and Navy Electrician’s Mate Richard C. Legg.

On the night of January 4, a team of six volunteers used a plan involving teams of two to recover the body of Byrnes. Radioactive gold 198Au from the man’s brass watch buckle and copper 64Cu from a screw in a cigarette lighter subsequently PROVED that the reactor had indeed gone prompt critical. Up until the recovery of radioisotopes of uranium, fission products, and the radioactive isotopes from the men’s belongings, scientists had doubted that a nuclear excursion had occurred, thinking it inherently safe. These findings ruled out early speculations that a chemical explosion caused the accident.

      • Niall says:

Thats not a nuclear explosion, Bill. Thats a runaway reaction resulting in a thermal explosion. It took a lot of research hnd smart scientists to figure out how to hold such a thermal explosion together long enough so the prompt critical results in a real nuglear detonation instead of just blowing itself apart. The explosion you are referring to is called a nuclear fizzle.

        • Dud says:

          So, these were indeed explosions.
          Thank you for admitting this.

I think of them in terms of “nukular” explosions, in my own humble opine.

        • Bill Duff says:

          Way Simple stuff,

A supercritical mass of a fissile substance is sufficient to create an atomic explosion.

Physically DROPPING the top half onto the bottom half, is sufficient to create a nuclear blast.

U-235 bombs such as the Little Boy were little more than that. The Fat Man plutonium bomb required a bit more design. The implosion trick is used to prevent an inefficient ‘fizzle yield’, which is ALSO an atomic blast, and generally quite destructive. Though a few have sputtered somewhat ineffectually, such as the North Korean atomic weapons.

          Sincerely,

          Bill Duff

  2. Bill Duff says:

The Gold Standard of nuclear fission is induced radiation.

The SL-1 documentary film discusses induced radiation in previously stable gold and copper.

    http www youtube com/ (watch?v=FAKcWM-yBkI)

Induced radiation is ‘Proof Positive’, in the Latin a ‘Prima Facie’ case.

Certainly TEPCO continues to lie, even when ‘the proof is evident’.

    Sincerely,

    Bill Duff

  3. Niall says:

Where is the evident proof here? Which metal was radioactively induced, exactly?
I am tired of your lies.

    • Bill Duff says:

      Nail, or is it hammerhead?

We are not interested in your equally stupid, lying accusations.

      Pissoff

      • Niall says:

        Answer the question

        • Bill Duff says:

          The Hammerheaded Nail,

The SL-1 nuclear reactor accident was openly and candidly made public. The accident was unfortunate. It was not compounded by an amateurish, poorly orchestrated (dumbass) coverup.

The lessons learned were simply added to our ‘bag of tricks’ and collective design considerations.

TEPCO was inept, in all regards. Their screwups were insufficient to kill the Nuclear Renaissance.

The ‘Team Nuke’, coverup, lies, pseudo-science and ‘full court press’, are what convinced me, that it was time to dismantle the entire civilian nuclear power project. You losers have ‘pulled the plug’; by being too stupid.

          Sincerely,

          Bill Duff

          • Niall says:

You still didn’t answer the question.

            • Bill Duff says:

              The Hammerhead Nail,

The Hammerhead Nail, makes an unfounded (shrill) assertion, rather than raising a question.

The subject matter was DEALT with entirely, scientifically and dispassionately, following the (1961) SL-1 nuclear explosion investigation (circa ~ 1962). The science is decided.

Nuclear alchemy, transmutation of stable elements to gamma emitting radioactive isotopes, OUTSIDE of nuclear reactors, in explosions …

Entirely Proves ‘Fission outside the containment’, which is to say an atomic explosion.

The HammerHead Nail, DOES NOT LIKE THE SCIENCE, for some personal/profit/religious motive. Personal motivations of advocates, do not alter the science.

              FDU-3 was an atomic explosion.

              Sincerely,

              Bill Duff

              • diemos says:

If you took a scintillation detector to the pipe and identified the photons as coming from cobalt-60 you would have a case for saying that this was neutron activation.

If on the other hand you saw the lines for cesium then this would be more likely just an accumulation of fission products released in the meltdown. The pipe is a reactor vent pipe after all.

You’ve really got to avoid leaping to conclusions without data. Especially since there are photos that show that the reactor did not blow up the way you describe.

It would not be so easy obtaining meaningful data at a safe distance.

Note that 60Co decays via Beta and Gamma radiation.

In addition, i am certain that whether the three workers died of blunt-force trauma or the possibly near-fatal levels of radiation is a null and void argument to the families of the deceased.

                  Measure the Sun,

The Village Idiot DieMost could also enact his direct observation plan, to determine if the Sun is actually radioactive.

Just trot up to the surface of the Sun, with a scintillation detector probe and take a direct, personal measurement.

At present, Japan, TEPCO and Team Nuke are constructing Radiation Barriers to shield workers in the FDU-4 building from excess gamma radiation sourced from the FDU-3 rubble.

“just a few dozen meters away is the real dead zone”

http www bbc co uk/ (news/world-asia-24846819) – 8 November 2013 Last updated at 00:03 ET

    Dead zone

But visiting the plant, it struck me that in our obsession with reactor four we may be missing the real story at Fukushima. I have recently received a new sophisticated radiation monitor sent from London, which has now had its first outing in the field. You can point it at things and it tells you how many “counts per second” of radiation the object is giving off. Inside reactor building four the readings were constantly low – not surprising when you remember that reactor four had no meltdown. The reactor was offline when the tsunami struck. That is not true with reactors one, two and three.

As our bus left reactor four and drove along the sea front, I pointed my new monitor out of the window towards reactor building three. Suddenly the needle started to spike – 1,000 counts per second, then 2,000, 3,000, finally it went off the scale. There, outside the bus, just a few dozen meters away is the real dead zone, a place where it is still far too dangerous for anyone to go. No human has been inside reactor three since the disaster. To do so would be suicide. No-one knows when it will be possible to go in.

When I asked the same experts how long it would be until reactors one, two and three could be dismantled, they shook their heads. When I asked them where they thought the melted reactor cores were, they shook their heads again. Tokyo Electric Power Company was happy to show us reactor four, but please do not ask what they intend to do with reactors one, two and three.

          Sufficient, but not necessary

Neutron transmutation of previously inert materials to gamma ray emitting radioactive isotopes, at the site of a suspicious explosion, is sufficient, but not necessary to prove fission.

And the Gamma Cam shots of nuclear grade structural steel members at the scene of an atomic reactor detonation is sufficient evidence, to the objective, scientifically trained mind, of an atomic explosion.

According to the Youtube Channel from “Hatrick Penry” it is confirmed, that there was a fire in the pool of building 4. That means the spend fuel was not under water any more.

The source of this information is the NRC itself. Under the freedom of information act the documents were released in july 2013.

That there is radioactivity is not sufficient to prove it was a nuclear explosion.

Background information for FDU-3 Atomic Explosion

    http podcast getwebreader com/ mp3/ (the-fukushima-aftermath-mp3-download/2013/06/978-551463)

Quote: From Mark Willacy Book (Australia Broadcasting Reporter) (google books

“‘I watched video of the Reactor 3 explosion,’ said veteran Japanese nuclear-reactor designer Setsuo Fujiwara. ‘There was an orange flash, which suggests the temperature must have been thousands of degrees centigrade before the explosion. Then there was black smoke.’ Fujiwara insisted to me that a hydrogen explosion created white smoke and steam, as witnessed after the Reactor 1 building was torn apart. He continued, ‘The second piece of evidence is that plutonium was scattered about after this blast. Plutonium is consistent with the mixed oxide fuel [used in Reactor 3]. The third point is that the Reactor 3 building was bent like candy, unlike the Reactor 1 building, where the steel framework remained intact. So this could only mean it was a nuclear explosion.’”

Generally, when hydrogen is oxidized by oxygen, an implosion results – not an explosion.

      • Bill Duff says:

        Dud,

Actually hydrogen combined with oxygen, in stoichiometric proportions, is an exothermic reaction, and an explosion.

In a similar fashion, when i have told others that the late Yoshida-san was said by TEmPCO to have died from a cancer not related to the Mega-Disaster at the plant, people do not generally believe this. “Bullshit” is the general response, and i tend to agree with them.

Reactor Designer: “It was a nuclear explosion” at Fukushima Unit 3; Plutonium scattered after blast

ABC: “There’s willful denial and lying going on here, even at the highest levels” (AUDIO)

Published: November 5th, 2013 at 7:23 pm ET, By ENENews

ABC Australia, June 26, 2013 (At 8:15 in): Even [Japan's Prime Minister Naoto Kan] can’t get answers. There’s one point he’s back in his office watching reactor 3 explode, there’s black smoke. “What’s going on,” asks Kan. There was silence. No one had any answer. But then over at Tepco, they’re watching that too. They know what’s going on, but the president of Tepco basically says, “Well, don’t tell them that, tell them something different.” Basically tell them it was a hydrogen explosion. So there’s willful denial and lying going on here, even at the highest levels. Even the Prime Minister can’t get the answers.

Akio Takahashi, a senior Tepco official: “We do not know whether it was a hydrogen explosion, but since the government–the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency–is saying it is a hydrogen explosion, we can just say so–a hydrogen explosion, can’t we?”

    • Niall says:

The pressure in the reactor vessel was the same before, and after, the explosion. But if you want to believe that the reactor blew up then go right ahead. I think everyone reading this plog understands that you think it was a nuclear explosion, so you don’t need to mention your theory any further. Thanks for your creative input.

      • Dud says:

      • Bill Duff says:

        Broken Meters

TEPCO released some salvage photos of the FDU-3, taken from overhead cranes. When the rubble was cleared away there was a hole in the ground, where the nuclear reactor, metal shell, Dry Well, Wet Well and all the related equipment were previously situated.

The meter remote sensors for PVT and all that jazz were probably vaporized in the nuclear blast along with the FDU-3 nuclear reactor.

So, the control room wires lead to nowhere and indicate nothing with respect to pressure, volume, temperature or anything else.

Soon after releasing the salvage photos TEPCO said they would release some radiation readings from the FDU-3. Then TEPCO said somebody ‘touched the crane’ and it broke and no further radiation data would be released.

Looking at the pdf linked to above, it looks to me like a hole in the roof, not a hole in the ground. and its above the fuel pool, not the reactor. You’ve been saying the reactor blewup. I’d find it much easier to believe the fuel pool exploded when presented with this info.

It is good to see that you admit that TEPCO altered photos &/or video, &/or documents.

                      Here is one example:

Quote: “On 11/19/2013, Tepco released the video of fuel removal operated on 11/18/2013.

It records from when they put the on-premises transfer container into the pool to when they put the new fuel assemblies to the container. However, the top and the bottom parts of the container are pixelated for some reason.

Tepco is known to conceal some of the information for “the protection of nuclear material” but it is not clear why they need to conceal only these parts of the container.”

If you would like, i will offer into evidence further examples of TEmPCO’s manipulation of photos, &/or videos, &/or documents.

  10. Mike says:

    Hello
Dud, you asked the same question I did sometime ago and have not received a response. I also haven’t been able to discover answer from my own research.
Perhaps Bill Duff could help us here.

With the multiple explosions and fires in the spent fuel pool of number four, how can these rods and assemblies be in any condition to remove?
    Mr Duff?

    • Bill Duff says:

      Easy does it.

The SFL-4 fuel removal process is underway; beginning with the easiest fuel rod assemblies. The unused (never irradiated) fuel assemblies were removed first.

I would personally then choose to remove the oldest, coldest, straightest and therefore safest fuel rod assemblies next. And I therefore assume that TEPCO is doing the same.

The hottest, most physically damaged, bent, cracked and/or BURNED fuel rod assemblies would come later.

So for example, TEPCO recently ‘owned up to’ a VERY OLD, BENT fuel rod assembly in the SFP-4 inventory. The assembly was bent, perhaps as much as 90 degrees, decades ago. I am not advised if TEPCO has released a photograph of that particular FUBAR, or any other damaged fuel rod assemblies to date.

After all the straightforward fuel assemblies (easier) are removed … well then, it may be time to do some additional ‘head scratching’ before handling the most severely damaged fuel rod assemblies. The overall hazard level will be lower, because the inventory will be MUCH smaller then. Oh and the half-life radiation reduction of fission products will continue to reduce the remaining hazard.

Then of course, the BIGGEST QUESTION MARK (?) is the fuel condition in the SFP-3 plant rubble.

      Sincerely,

      Bill Duff

      • Mike says:

Thank you for your response. However I have failed to see the answer to the question in that response. I do not mean to be obtuse, and I am sure you have read the documents released thru a FOIA, in particular relating to the “catastrophic”( there word) explosions and fires in the SFP of Unit 4. Help us out here. How are spent and unspent fuel rods removed if they have been damaged in explosions and raging fires?
I learn much from reading your comments here.
I am aware of the dire position of the other reactors. The liars and frauds may be perpetuating another hoax and if the fuel pool of unit four has gone up in smoke the issue is moot all around.
        Best regards,
        Mike

        • Niall says:

You might learn stuff, but do take Bills comments with a grain of salt.

Tepco are picking out the undamaged rods first.

          • Dud says:

If TEmPCO is removing undamaged rods, the question becomes:
Which reactor are they removing them from?

It certainly seems unlikely that they are indeed from Unit #4.

More to the point – just how did TEPCO and/or it’s subcontractors with or without assistance from the USS Ronald Reagan (et al) manage to put out the pyrophoric fire in the Unit 4 Spent Fuel Pool?

It seems like they just let it burn out on it’s own.
Also note that potassium iodide pills are useless against spent fuel pool emissions. We were denied potassium iodide pills early on in this Mega-Disaster that will not be over until long after we are all dust.

We have been nuked here, and you appear to be in denial.

            • Bill Duff says:

First, the NRC document specifies multiple SFP fires and specifically includes SFP-4 in that description.

The NRC Email does not indicate the nature or the source of the SFP-4 Fire.

The SFP-4 fire could have been hydrogen gas fire(s) and/or pyrophoric fire(s) of zircalloy tubes and/or the spent nuclear fuel pellets themselves.

A single pyrophoric fire of a single zircalloy tube would not necessarily ignite other tubes in the same spent fuel assembly. One assembly on fire would not necessarily spread to other nearby assemblies.

One zircalloy tube on fire, or 100, would simply burn out like a dead cigarette butt, when the tube was fully combusted. It is not magic. It is just a gawdamn fire, which requires fuel, oxygen and heat.

              Sincerely,

              Bill Duff

              • Bill Duff says:

                Interpretation,

I personally interpret the NRC Email to indicate multiple pyrophoric zircalloy tube fires all over the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.

These zircalloy tube fires would be expected to include the most recently extracted, most radioactive, thermally hottest and most heat generating, fuel assemblies.

The zircalloy tubes will not catch fire in dry air, nor underwater. They require heat, and a wet/dry/wet cycle to ignite. Then, once ignited a zircalloy tube will burn like a 4th of July SPARKLER, until it is gone, whether in the atmosphere, underwater or in a sloshing, steamy hellish environment.

                Sincerely,

                Bill Duff

                • diemos says:

I interpret the NRC documents as a bunch of guys speculating without information from 5000 miles away.

It’s amazing how people will seize on it as divinely revealed truth the minute it says what they want it to say.

                  • Bill Duff says:

                    Actually,

General Electric had people ‘on campus’ at the FDNPP at the time of the 311 Earthquake. ( a regularly scheduled stakeholder conference)

The GE Team high-tailed it home, ASAP and reported their EXPERT, ON-Site, observations and recommendations at a SERIES of high-level meetings in Washington DC.

The NRC, White House and other DC groups were, to the best of my recollection, according to the record, fully briefed, with timely information. Their FUBAR, SNAFU, stupid, short-sighted, foolish, dangerous, misleading as well as, murderous; subsequent USE of that information, is on them.

                    Sincerely,

                    Bill Duff

                  • Dud says:

I interpret such government documents, only obtained via Freedom of Information Law, as a damning indictment of government and industry run amok.

Also, their information was obtained nearby, not 5000 miles away.

They seemed to have more command of the facts than all levels of Japanese governance.

          • Dud says:

If, and only if, i was to take any of Mr. Duff’s comments with a grain of salt, i would need at least a pound of salt to read yours.

    Accuracy:

TEPCO has seldom demonstrated a tendency toward: candor or accuracy; and certainly no skill or interest whatsoever in the way of ‘full disclosure’.

It would be more accurate to state that:

The smouldering ruins of the Fukushima Daiichi #3 Power Plant, were still/again emitting black smoke on or about 03/21/2011, following the atomic explosion of 03/14/2011.

My humble respect for those suffering from all facets of the Mega-Disaster that started with the Mega-Earthquake of March 11th, 2011.
It is a day that will long live in infamy, on both sides of the Pacific (and beyond).

I think of you every day. Know that you are not alone, spiritually.

Remember the Angel of Miyagi, and the words of the censored words of the Emporer.

Quote: His Majesty, Emperor Akihito said:
“As this earthquake and tsunami caused the nuclear power plant accident, those living in the designated danger zone lost their homes and livelihoods and had to leave the places where they used to live. In order for them to live there again safely, we have to overcome the problem of radioactive contamination, which is a formidable task.”

“It is important for us to never forget this disaster and hand down the lessons we learned to future generations and foster the proper attitude towards disaster prevention…”

  14. G’Day! Mochizuki,
Thanks, on a related note, Of course since the US gov has self-appointed themselves (or more specifically their armies) as policemen for the world, as evidenced by the takeover of Iraq, Afghanistan, and of course the popular drone bombings of possible foreign terrorist suspects. Why not go after the corporation causing the release of the most harmful form of terrorism, nuclear radiation? Makes enough sense to me.
    Catch you again soon!
