[Column] Publishing all the articles for free is my philosophy

About the severe deficit of Fukushima Diary corporation, I seem able to clear it in the next term.
Some of the readers thankfully supported the company. Paypal commission was annoying but I’m very relieved. Not sure if it’s more than enough to renew it but should be above the dead zone.

Fukushima Diary publishes information that is crucial for people. It’s the matter of life or death. Like water and clean air must be served for everyone as free as possible, I think all the articles must be read by everyone for free.

This is why I don’t charge anyone. If a reader appreciates my work, and have some extra pocket money, I receive donation. This is my philosophy.

but I don’t want to be shouting “Donation, donation donation”. I don’t want to pressure the readers and I have my pride too. First of all, I want to trust the readers all the time.

About 10,000 people read Fukushima Diary every single day. If all of them pay 0.5$ once a month, 10×Fukushima Diaries can be fed. but this is nothing but a theory.
I have written about that twice before.
As a result, 5 or 6 readers kindly donated 0.5$ but people who used to make 30~40$ donation got to donate 0.5$ instead. and I made 99% of the readers feel awkward.
so I won’t do that never again.

so I’m thinking of taking down the paypal buttons most of the time, and post them only once or twice a month to accept donation like “Donation time”.
If nobody comes back the next “Donation time”, I’d lose a lot. but I may show my philosophy more clearly.

Don’t be their accomplice.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
