Tepco lost 22 people’s personal information for nuclear damage compensation, “Left on the train”

On 6/14/2013, Tepco announced their employee left 22 people’s personal information for nuclear damage compensation on a train.

The information included names, address and the request statuses. At this moment, the document has not been found and returned yet.

They reported this below,

We deeply apologize to the people who live near the nuclear power stations and broad society for the tremendous anxiety and inconvenience caused by the accident at our Fukushima Daiichi and Daini Nuclear Power Stations (hereinafter referred to as “the accident”).

On June 11, 2013, a TEPCO employee of the Fukushima Nuclear Compensation Office left documents which are related to the nuclear damage compensation and containing personal information of those who have requested compensation on a train in Saitama Prefecture, and lost the documents. The missing documents concerning nuclear damage compensation, includes personal information (such as names, addresses and request statuses) of 22 people.

We sincerely apologize to these 22 people and the people who are suffering from the accident for the tremendous anxiety and inconvenience caused by the missing of important information of those who requested compensation.

We reported this issue to the police station and searched a possible place where the documents were lost. However, we have not yet found the documents. At present, we are making contact and explaining the situation to those who have their information contained in the documents.

We have been making efforts to ensure proper handling of personal information in such manners as to limit carrying documents outside the company to the minimum necessary occasions and to request strict control on the documents when they have to be carried outside. We deeply regret what has happened, and will conduct further strict and appropriate management efforts to improve our handling of personal information so that we never repeat the same mistake again.

Le 14 juin 2013, Tepco déclare que leur salarié a laissé 22 dossiers d’information personnelles pour les indemnisations des conséquences de la catastrophe nucléaire dans un train.

Ces informations incluent les noms, adresses et état des demandes. Pour l’instant, les documents n’ont pas été retrouvés ni rendus.
Ils le rapportent ainsi :

Nous présentons nos plus profondes excuses aux gens vivant près de la centrale nucléaire et à la société en général pour  la profonde anxiété et les troubles provoqués par l’accident à nos centrales électriques nucléaires de Fukushima Daiichi et Daini (ci-après désignées par “l’accident”).
Le 11 juin 2013, un salarié de TEPCO du bureau des indemnisations nucléaires de Fukushima a égaré dans un train dans la préfecture de Saitama des documents d’indemnisation de dégâts nucléaires et contenant des informations personnelles sur ceux ayant demandé à être indemnisés et il les a perdus.  Les documents manquants concernant les indemnisations des dégâts nucléaires contiennent des informations personnelles (comme les noms, adresses et état des demandes) de 22 personnes.
Nous présentons sincèrement nos plus plates excuses à ces 22 personnes et à celles qui souffrent de l’accident dans une angoisse terrible et pour la gène provoquée par la perte de ces informations importantes pour ceux qui ont demandé des indemnisations.
Nous avons déclaré ce problème au commissariat de police et avons recherché dans les endroits possibles où ces documents ont pu être perdus. Nous ne les avons cependant pas encore retrouvés. A présent, nous établissons des contacts et expliquons la situation à ceux dont les informations étaient contenues dans ces documents.
Nous avons poussés nos efforts pour nous garantir une gestion correcte des informations personnelles de manière à limiter au strict minimum le transport des documents en dehors de la société et exiger un contrôle strict des documents lorsqu’ils doivent en sortir. Nous déplorons profondément ce qui est arrivé et allons procéder à de nouveaux efforts de gestion stricte et appropriés pour améliorer notre gestion des informations personnelles pour ne plus jamais reproduire cette même erreur.

I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
