Sea contamination level increased on 1/30/2012

 

Tepco announced the samples taken at intake of reactor 2 and 3 contained more radiation then the ones of 1/29/2012.

2・3号機付近 濃度やや上昇

東京電力福島第一原子力発電所の2号機と3号機の取水口付近で、30日採取された海水に含まれる放射性物質の濃度は、前の日をやや上回りました。
福島第一原発の周辺では、去年4月と5月に海水から高い濃度で放射性物質が検出された2号機と3号機の取水口付近などで、東京電力が海水を採取し、放射性物質の測定を行っています。30日、2号機の取水口付近で採取した海水からは、1cc当たり、セシウム134が国の基準の2.2倍の0.13ベクレル、セシウム137が1.9倍の0.17ベクレル検出されました。また3号機の取水口付近では、セシウム134が基準の4.3倍の0.26ベクレル、セシウム137が3.8倍の0.34ベクレル検出されました。いずれも前の日をやや上回りました。一方、30日と29日、福島第一原発の沿岸と沖合の6か所で行った調査では、1号機と2号機の放水口から南におよそ7キロ付近の沿岸で放射性セシウムが検出されましたが、基準を大幅に下回りました。

Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
