Nagoya port authority published they have returned over 500 cars from last August to January from being too radioactive.
They are used cars. Used car retailers decided not to ship the car which they measure more than 0.3 microSv/h from but those 500 cars were more contaminated than that limit.

I wonder if the new cars are also radioactive ? Also Car parts?
I suppose most of the cars are assembled out of Japan for non-Japanese market.
Even 0,3µSv/h is two times and a half the international limit (1 mSv/year) !!
All exports should have been stopped because it is impossible to check every product prior to shipping.
Where is the common sense of Man ?
If the 0.3 µSv/h (2.6 mSv/year) is the additional radiation dose rate on top of the background radiation, the yes, it is exceptionally high. Fortunately, even if this were the case, from what is known about the effects of radiation on human health, radiation at this level should be far from a serious health risk (assuming the exposure remains external – internal exposure is a completely different beast). It would be important to find out *why* the cars are this radioactive and whether something can be done to reduce the radioactivity.
However, if the reading is just the raw dose rate near the car, which would also contain the contribution from the background radiation, the figure is within the low-normal range, globally speaking. Whether it is actually elevated needs to be determined by comparison to the level of background radiation before the nuclear disaster.
Yes it i a great worry for imports–I saw that they had new filters for sale for Toyota cars the other day and wondered if they were unsafe.
I feel so much for all those souls in the danger zones in Japan–and I guess in time the whole world will be a danger zone also
